Boston Red Sox Baseball XII

Boston Red Sox Baseball XII • this painting is sold

ok, ok. Number 12. Maybe time to take a break from the baseballs .... or .... is it?

Here's my Boston story:

Many years ago, when I was a claim examiner, my sister and I took a three day trip to Boston through an opportunity with a company that I worked for. Our small room was in a gorgeous hotel located in the Boston theatre district. We strolled the streets, window shopped in the plentiful - yet pricey, antique shops, admired the swan boats and ate at the Bull and Finch ... in the prime seat at the foot of the stairs. We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves.

One thing that I was absolutely awed by ... was the plethora of absolutely beautiful men in Boston. So ... naturally ... the ONLY thing for me to do was prove it with the task of photographing them. So ... with my SLR in tow, I began to ask these suited men to indulge in my quest by allowing me to take their picture. Click by click by click ... suits and ties and jeans and accents .. some of which I wasn't quite sure were authentic ... but I finished my roll of film in no time .. including one photo of a chap from England - also one of the beautiful men ....

Well, time for the Whale Watching cruise ... and my finished roll of film is safely in my jeans jacket pocket ... On the boat, my friend 'Screamer' asked 'what's in the pocket' .. when I pointed to the roll with the most beautiful men of Boston, the roll popped out of my pocket, rolled off the boat and sank to the bottom of Boston Harbour ... leaving only a set of widening rings on the water as the boat drove away ... my gorgeous men of Boston .... Fish food ..... whaaa !!!!

BUT, It leaves me with a reason to return ....

Today ... helping my Dad this morning, babysitting for my great niece, mailing prints of Mr. Martini and the Girls ... and painting in my studio ... ahhhh ... I love to paint in my studio.

So, I'm still listening to 'Speaking French in 12 cds' ... and I'm ok with it ... except ... if a French speaking person came to my studio I'd probably choke. Maybe that's ok since I still have six months to improve. That's 'improve' though ... on so many levels.

Well ... in the immortal words of Scarlet: 'Tomorrow's another day'. Voila!!

Apples 3 • this painting is sold

ok, ok. Apples #3. Just one more painting to go of Apples with this Apple series. I've been fortunate to have art lovers exhibit a 'series' of my paintings on the soffit of their kitchen and they look really good. It's having fun art in the favorite part of your home ... and at a reasonable cost.

So, if you're interested in having an Apple theme exhibited on the soffit of your kitchen, just let me know. I'll even post a photo of your kitchen on my blogging website .. if you'd like.

Remember, even in a recession .... Happily, 'Art' increases in value.

Apples 2

Apples 2

This is the second of my Apples paintings from yesterday. I really had great fun with these paintings .... two more apple paintings to list, and then a clementine painting. It was freeing to create with the bright backgrounds ... and I'm thinking of new ideas for my exhibition in Antibes Juan-les-Pins in July. If you have any thoughts or suggestions, just drop me an email and share your ideas.

Also, I have a 12 cd course in French that I'm listening to in my studio. It's really great to speak (well, I wouldn't necessarily say 'speak') French again. But honestly, sometimes I am unable to form my mouth to create the necessary sounds to pronounce the words. HOW do they do it?

Impossible!! c'est la vie ...

oh ... by the way ... if you want to see my MYSPACE entry, just click the upcoming link. One suggestion though, if you want to see the presentation a little clearer, click on the little square box to the right of the volume graphic underneath the show - it makes a big difference (only drawback, the gentle transitions between paintings are lost on the MYSPACE presentation).

Gosh I had a great time in my studio today. I painted five paintings .... four apple paintings and one clementine painting. Very juicy, rich colors. I listed to several 'How to Speak French' cds ... and then put on 'Accordions on a Paris Street' given to me from my Dad.

Some days it's almost impossible to get a painting done, then I have a day like today when I feel like I'm 'on'. Hopefully that reflects in my work.

Off to Dad's ....

Parcheesi

Parcheesi • this painting is sold

I love to play games. We were brought up on games and spent many hours at the card table. One of my favorite games is 'Anagrams' - which many people have never heard of. It's a game of word skill. Each tile has a letter on it and you face all of the tiles letter down. You can play with two or more persons. Each participant picks a letter and puts it face up in the middle. Whoever has a letter closes to A goes first. You make words (no less than three letters) and can steal words from your opponents by adding a letter and changing the root word.

Example: If you picked up an S and your opponent had the word 'reap'. You could add the S, change the order of the letters and make 'spare'. Then, say someone picked up an 'C', they could change it to 'spacer' etc. etc. etc. It's a great game and you always get better every time you play. I always buy the vintage games on Ebay ... to me, the classics are the still the best.

Friday workload at home

Phfew! Finally I caught up with uploading all of my Painting Each Day paintings on my comprehensive website:

www.annelizabethschlegel.com

For a visual thrill, click on 'site map' on the rust colored left hand column of my comprehensive website and scroll down.

Now I'm well into PAINTING EACH DAY Volume III. As of today there are three hundred and sixty seven paintings listed ... and I did create one that I forgot to take a photo of (Jan, don't forget to take a photo of Vynecrest Spiced WInter Red and I'll be sure to add it to my websites).

So, seven hours later at my computer and my shoulders ache ... time for a steamy bath and a margarita (maybe two?) at the new Johnny Mananas!

Cheers !

Angostura Bitters

Angostura Bitters

Angostura aromatic bitters is a highly concentrated food and beverage flavouring. Made from a secret formula, it is a unique blend of natural herbs and spices which is used to flavour a wide variety of foods and drinks.

The "secret" was developed in 1824 by Dr. J.G.B. Siegert, a Surgeon General in Simon Bolivar's army in Venezuela. He used his aromatic bitters to improve appetite and digestive well-being of the soldiers. The word "Angostura" came from the town of that name in Venezuela where Dr. Siegert was based. Angostura aromatic bitters is a unique flavour enhancer for food preparation, beverages and deserts; just a few dashes can enhance the flavour of any dish. It is not bitter when added to food & drink, but rather has the ability to marry flavours, bringing out the best in them without masking their taste.

I'll Take Manhattan

I'll Take Manhattan • this painting is sold

Today was a good day. I don't mean that I didn't have my teary eyed sensitive moments thinking of my Mom, but in general it was a really nice day. Then after leaving my Dad's this morning, I went straight to my studio to paint this Bourbon Manhattan. Well, what was I to do afterwards? ... pour it down the drain?? Certainly not! I needed to sample my 'Objet d'art' ... so I did. Yumm .... I really love a Bourbon Manhattan.

This is a special glass for a collector's Father's birthday. So, here's lookin' at you kid.

Bon Jour ! If you haven't had a chance to read yesterday's post, I'm most happy to let you know that I will be having a solo exhibition in Antibes Juan-les-Pins, France this summer ! I haven't been to lovely France for quite some time. I spent a wonderful painting holiday with the PA Academy of the Fine Arts in the summer of 1995 and then in 1996 I attended the renowned Ecole Nationale Superieure des Beaux-Arts in Paris. Also, I had the upmost pleasure of painting in Monet's Giverny - by invitation ... what a glorious country !!!!

So, now starts the focus of 'Instrument' Painting Each Day paintings .... suggestions are not only welcomed, but wanted. Ahhhh .... Joie de vivre !

I have been invited to Antibes Juan-les-Pins, France to have a solo exhibition of my Instrument Series. The exhibition runs from July 2nd through July 30th of this year. Crunchzels and Dove Dark Chocolate

Crunchzels and Dove Dark Chocolate • this painting is sold

Today I stopped by the Allentown Farmers' Market. It's the crown jewel of food shopping in the Lehigh Valley. It's fun. There are cheese shops, meat shops, produce shops and fish shops. There are chicken shops and pizza shops and even a pickle shop ... there's Mediterranean fare and Country fare, a kitchen store and even a vacuum shop ... anything and everything that you would ever need or dream of to create a wonderful dinner (and clean up afterwards).

..... and there's a Pretzel and Chip shop, too. So, today I brought to my studio some 'Crunchzels' made by Tom Sturgis. They're wonderful pretzels. Flavorful and not overly salty. Just right! And what better flavor to compliment a wonderful pretzel than a dark and delicious Dove chocolate mini-bar.

Ahhh .... painting in my studio, enjoying a Crunchzel and a Dove's. Nothin' finer.

Kellogg's Special K

Kellogg's Special K • this painting is reserved

Why eat breakfast? Research shows that people who regularly eat a low-fat breakfast like Kellogg’s Special K are less likely to be overweight than those who don't. (De la Hunty and Ashwell M: Are people who eat breakfast cereals slimmer than those who don’t? Nutrition Bulletin; Vol.32 Issue 2)

If you skip breakfast, you tend to get hungrier mid-morning, which means your blood sugar levels plunge and you're more tempted to eat indulgent foods. Starting the day with a good breakfast means that: You’ll have a better nutrient intake. You could be less likely to be overweight. It can help with concentration.

Kellogg’s Special K can also provide you with: 6 essential B-vitamins, important for energy release from foods.Vitamin C which is an antioxidant that protects the body’s cells. Vitamin D essential for healthy bones. Iron for energy production. Protein needed to transport other nutrients around the body and support body cells. And if you really can't make time for breakfast before you leave the house, start keeping a box of your favourite Special K cereal at work so you can tuck when you get there!

Hofbrau Bier • The Wine Stopper Collection

Hofbrau Bier • The Wine Stopper Collection • this painting is reserved

This was the fourth wine stopper painting that I created at Christkindlmarkt. I am just so charmed by these little movable and animated creations. With this one, 'Hofbrau Bier', you just pull the level on his back and he lifts his Hofbrau Bier to his mouth.

Some of the gentlemen wine stoppers lift their hats and other wine stoppers with both man and woman turn to each other and kiss as you lower the lever. Very cute indeed! It's almost worth opening a bottle of wine just so you can display these little gems properly!

Farmers • The Wine Stopper Collection

Farmers • The Wine Stopper Collection

One of the joys at Christkindlmarkt this year was the Black Forest Cuckoo Clock booth. Every few minutes I'd hear an
other cuckoo clock cuckooing or the music box playing to the twirling dancers emerging from inside the clocks. The cuckoo clocks were all hand carved by a young gentleman and his father. They carve them in the Black Forest area of Germany and then bring them to the Christmas Markets to sell.

I already own two cuckoo clocks which lessened my temptation to bring another one home,
but, I did buy many wine stoppers. They had wonderful carved 'Fox' wine stoppers of which I purchased seven. I also bought the 'Hunter' featured in my painting 'The Old Married Couple'. He's wonderfully animated and he has a new home in my studio at the Banana Factory.

Here's Bernd - the cuckoo clock carver.

Comics and Happy New Year!

Comics and Happy New Year! • this painting is sold

Well, last year we lost our Mother to pancreatic cancer. She fell on January 17th. We drove her to the hospital and she never came back home. She passed away on July 7th at 5:05 p.m. I wouldn't trade those seven months for anything. Each day bringing my Dad in to see Mom, helping her with her meals and clothes and personal care and looking into her eyes when it was time for her to let go. I really miss her. We all do.

It's hard, yet comforting being at my Mom's house. I cook in her kitchen, vacuum her rugs, make her bed and prepare my Dad's breakfast each morning ... her handwritten notes are here and there and her slippers are still in place by the vanity. And I can hear her voice in my thoughts. I can still hear her calling after my Dad or knocking on the kitchen window to chase away the squirrels. And I can still see her smile.

It all goes by so fast. And I really miss her. We all do.
